This listing includes one two cent piece dated between 1864-1873. The 2 cent coin was the first to bear the familiar US coin motto “In God We Trust.” These coins are in average circulated condition, some may have small imperfections. Pictures are stock photos, dates and condition will vary.
At first it seemed like the coin was widely accepted by the public and would continue to circulate. However, the coin was short lived and only lasted for as long as it did due to the shortage of coins during the Civil War. Once the Civil War ended, regular coinage began to reappear and the demand for two cent coins faded away.
